What changed in AI for small businesses this week

Week ending . The AI changes small businesses can actually use, in plain language, each with a source and one thing to do.

Last updated

1. Wix's AI agents can now pay suppliers, with your approval each time

Oct 15, 2026

Wix says Symphony, its set of AI agents for small businesses, now connects to Link, Stripe's digital wallet. The agents can pay an invoice, reorder stock or cover a fee for you. You approve each purchase by WhatsApp or text within a 10-minute window. Wix says the agent never sees your card details, and each payment uses a one-time card capped at the approved amount. It's rolling out to Symphony users with a US Link account, paying in US dollars.

What to do: Before you turn it on, decide which purchases an agent may ask for at all. Read each request in full before you tap approve.

2. Gmail Live: ask your inbox questions out loud on your phone

Oct 15, 2026

Google is rolling out Gmail Live to paid Workspace plans, including Business Starter, Standard and Plus, on Android and iOS. You ask a question by voice, like "What's the order status for [supplier]?", and it answers from your email and shows the source email. It's on by default for organizations with Gemini, and for now it's US English only. Google says it can take up to 15 days to appear.

What to do: Handy in the truck or on the shop floor. Tap the source card to check the actual email before you act on an answer.

3. Google Meet can now draft your follow-up email after a meeting

Announced Oct 12, 2026 (rollout began Oct 5)

With "Take notes for me" turned on, Meet's post-meeting screen can draft a follow-up email in Gmail or send action items to Google Tasks. It's available on Workspace Business Standard and Plus, and admins can turn it off.

What to do: Try it on a routine internal meeting first. Read the draft before you send it, especially any dates or promises.

4. Gemini "skills" start rolling out, and Gems are being phased out

Oct 13, 2026

Skills are saved instructions you can reuse, like a "brand voice" or "quote follow-up" skill. They started rolling out in the Gemini app on Oct 13, with completion expected by mid-November. The Workspace-apps rollout is delayed until further notice. Google says Gems move to Settings on Nov 17, and business accounts can't use them from no sooner than March 1, 2027.

What to do: If your team relies on Gems, list them now so you can rebuild them as skills. Skills don't sync between the Gemini app and Workspace apps yet.

5. ChatGPT can now build slide decks your team edits together

Rolling out now (seen Oct 17, 2026)

OpenAI's help center says Slides is rolling out to ChatGPT Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with Space access. You can build a deck from a chat, files or an outline, edit it with teammates, and export it to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides.

What to do: Good for turning notes into a first-draft proposal or training deck. Check every price, date and claim before anything goes to a customer.

6. Price watch: Google Workspace's promo changed; ChatGPT and Claude team prices didn't

Checked Oct 17, 2026

Google's pricing page now shows Business Starter at $3.50 (list $7), Standard at $7 (list $14) and Plus at $17.60 (list $22) per user/month for Oct 31, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027. The footnote says new customers only, first 20 users. ChatGPT Business ($20/user/month annually, $25 monthly) and Claude Team ($20 / $25) are unchanged.

What to do: If you were already planning to move to Workspace, the promo window starts Oct 31. Confirm the final price at checkout, since the page wording is mixed.
